ART AND POETRY PRIZE WINNER:

Rebecca Demosthenous did a picture with a poem incorporated!

I hide in the woods behind the trees and logs like children playing hide and seek.
I hide from them but they hide from each other.
My coat is as white as hope and as soft as a mother’s kiss.
My nose is as rosy as a delighted child’s cheeks.
If you feel me, I’m as warm as a child snuggling up to a teddy bear under the duvet.
I am as graceful as a ballerina,
as fast as a child running home from school,
as shy as a child on the first day at school,
as gentle as a mother soothing her baby,
as peaceful as a baby sleeping.

If you haven’t guessed, I am a white deer
and that’s what I am.

The Judas Deer
The beautiful white deer nibbles gently at shrubs,
Twitching in fright she frets and gallops through the dark woods.
She carefully steps over the tangles of roots as delicately as if she were flying,
Twisting and turning through the clumps of trees,
Her body leaping through the air like magic.
Glowing like a lantern she carefully darts to her herd of deer.

She cautiously stepped away at the sound of my gentle footsteps.
I peered at the old oak tree and gasped at the magnificent creature
Standing there before me was the incredible...Judas Deer!

It was a moment I’ll never forget,
Seeing that amazing creature in its most glorious beauty.

Bea Park

The Judas Deer
We roam the woods at twilight,
When darkness is creeping in.
I shine like a beacon
Amongst the silent woods,
Whilst the green eyes of hunger
Are closing in behind us.
In the stillness of the night,
When the kill has been forgotten,
The real betrayal has become apparent
As in my drive to survive
I willingly sacrificed my friend...
So became the Judas Deer.

Hannah Lansdell

The Judas Deer
As the sun seeps through the leafy branches
I see the Judas Deer.
Standing proudly, his snowy, velvety fur glistens and gleams.
Dark, piercing eyes, coal black circles embedded in his
shiny, shimmering, ice-like head.
CRACK! A branch breaks!
The Judas Deer runs.
I am left alone with my memories of the beautiful
ethereal.

Eleanor Wingfield

White Deer Acrostic
White deer
His antlers a magnificent crown
Impressive and
Thorny, yet
Elegant still.

Dimly he seems to glow
Exquisitely in the moonlit night, seemingly mourning a faithful friend
Even though he cannot
Remember whom he has lost.

Emily Slay

The Judas Deer
He stands in a small clearing in the wood,
almost as if he is waiting for something.
The magical moment when the sun peeps out from behind the clouds,
shimmering and glistening on his back like crystals.

His head held high,
as though he prides himself on being different,
His herd arrives to hide him as though in shame.
The sound of a shot ripples through the wood.
The Judas Deer has betrayed his own once more.
